The Pierre In the late 1960’s, Peter Dowling, owner of another Uptown staple, The Carlyle, took over The Pierre and transformed it into his vision of Versailles, commissioning the hand-painted murals that still adorn The Rotunda.

Highs & Lows

  • Location, location, location. Across the street from Central Park, close to all major museums, Lincoln Center, and all the best Uptown classic stores and restaurants.

  • The stunning views over the city.

  • The impeccable service.

  • The history. It is fascinating to inhabit the same rooms the most notable characters of the international jet set of many decades ago chose to live their New York life.

  • Plastic. Sadly, the hotel uses plastic bottles for water everywhere, from the check-in welcome to evening turn down service. Wrong in principle and also looks bad and cheap.

  • Minibar. The assortment is quite basic and again here, more plastic bottles.
