Las Alamandas
- Where:
- Why:A “quarantine” stopover to be able to enter the US
- When:April 2021
- Who:My friend and I
"Secluded luxury meets full immersion in nature on this lush beachfront property"
Highs & Lows
-
Feels like you’re staying at a friend’s private home.
-
Massages on the beach.
-
You can rent whole villas for families or groups of friends or select individual junior suite units.
-
Four private beaches to choose from.
-
Riding, kayaking, fishing or biking around the property. Or simply lounging in a hammock with a cocktail in hand.
-
Farm-to-table food from local farmers and their own garden.
-
Coconuts taken fresh off the palm trees around you.
-
Be very cautious swimming in the sea right in front of the property as the tides are dangerously strong. There is a pool right at the beach and other beaches more suitable for swimming.
-
Although the hotel is open all year round, it is good to check which season to go in, as some months are much hotter and more humid (June - September) while others (November - March) are drier with an afternoon breeze.
-
Mosquitoes!

Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
I went the old-school way — phone calls and back-and-forth emailing. But now that the hotel has updated their website with Selfbook technology, I look forward to a seamless direct one-click bookings in the future
-

Sustainability focused food & beverage initiatives with farm-to-table food grown on the property. Limited plastic use throughout the property
-
Music
The crashing of waves, the morning birds and the evening breeze

Designed By
Designed by Isabel Goldsmith herself, owner of Las Alamandas. Colorful garden design with bougainvillea spilling over the terraces and quirky statues dotted around the gardens that has landed the hotel in Architectural Digest and Vogue, among others
-
Health & Wellness
Early morning walks along the beach and the freshest of juices are wellness-focused enough, but if you feel inclined to do your daily workout, there is a gym as well as a tennis court and a breezy yoga pavilion overlooking the ocean. Make sure to end your day with a serene massage in the shaded palapa on the beach
-
Food
Beachfront dining under the stars and delicious Mediterranean-Mexican farm-to-table cuisine with varying daily menus. Guacamole, margaritas and fresh fish were my evening staples
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
Generally quiet in the evenings, but not for lack of things to do. There's a sexy rooftop terrace to sip cocktails on as the sun goes down, a colorful bar for evening aperitivos or the option of the beach palapa open all day with snacks. There’s also a bonfire night on the beach once a week
-
Minibar & Retail
Small boutique store at the hotel offering a vibrant selection of artisanal arts and crafts, jewellery, beachwear and accessories. Should you forget your SPF, you can find that too
-
Accessibility
Yes — ground floor rooms and paved roads to access the restaurant and beach club
-
Pet Friendly
Yes
-
Children
Lots of activities to entertain the little ones — but also enough space that guests don’t feel overwhelmed by children running around
-
Price
On the pricier side but the seclusion and serenity of a private retreat all to yourself is priceless

Unmistakably recognisable as the colorful hotel in Mexico, Las Alamandas is hidden on Mexico’s Pacific coast, close enough to Puerto Vallarta but worlds away from the large resorts of that coastline.
