A Hotel Life Presents: Mint House
The fresh revival of residential hospitality
By Tansy Kaschak on 02.22.22
In our rapidly reshaping world, we are breaking free from time and space constraints to build our own reality. The obligation of occupying a specific place at a specific time to be able to perform a job is increasingly dissolving. Not bound by a punch clock, desk or even cities, there is a whole new wave of — dare we say — modern and nimble nomads who are stepping into the possibility of living more fluidly and working by our own rules.
Digital platforms like Airbnb, One Fine Stay, and Vrbo allow us to stay at someone’s apartment while they are probably staying at somebody else’s apartment, which is lovely and can potentially be great… Unless the mi casa es su casa dream brings along some not so desired features: a broken sink, dusty corners, or stubborn wi-fi that doesn’t reach those Kbps “the cable guy promised when he just visited the other day but we promise we are working on it now…”
Mint House, a savvy combination of the comfort of a home, future-forward technology, and effortless experiences is giving the I-live-here-now movement a well-deserved upgrade. Open in 15 major U.S. cities — including New York, Miami, Austin and New Orleans — and reaching 30 markets in the next 12 months, it puts a fresh twist on extended stays by bringing the things we love the most about lifestyle hotels into residential apartments: good and thoughtful design, service that is not too fussy (but is there for us and anticipates our needs), and conveniences that fit right into real life.
Jess Berkin, Mint House’s Head of Brand, says their “mission is to elevate every stay through technology, fundamentally changing the way we live, work and play away from home.” Through expansive and shoppable spaces, flexible layouts, smart technology, local amenities, and relevant solutions — fridge stocked up on demand and prior to arrival, and in-home help to burn those calories with MIRROR workouts — Mint House wants to provide the perfect backdrop for exploration, relaxation, or concentration, whatever the stay calls for.
“We’ve ditched losable key cards, long lines, room service, and other relics for the things we miss when we travel: kitchens, groceries, workout routines, and the space to spread out. Every part of the Mint House experience is powered by smart technology, making your stay personal and effortless”, says Jess.
While the future-forward efforts that are focused on the guest experience make our smartphones the control center — unlock your unit, set the thermostat, shop the space straight from a device, get instant assistance and local recommendations by texting a 24/7 digital concierge service — Mint House’s moves for the greater good act in the backstage and stand just as bold.
With a leaner hospitality model and the intelligent placement of sensors and thermostats, resources like water and energy are efficiently used and CO2 daily emissions are 23% less if compared to a traditional mid-scale hotel and 56% less if compared to an upscale hotel with food & beverage waste and conference space. By the end of 2022, Mint House will send zero soap waste to landfills through a partnership with Clean the World and is on track to reduce all single-use plastic waste from its apartments.
Understanding community is key, each Mint House is engaged in the local cultural landscape via collaborations and partnerships with artists and creators and by opening the doors of its common spaces to those looking for an inspired environment to share. Jess told us there is much more coming up. We’ll be watching — and checking in — and are excited about it.
