Choo-choo the Wes Anderson Way
Hollywood’s most aesthetic director just reimagined a historic train carriage
Written by Amulya Hiremath on 10.27.21
Thank your lucky stars because this one train is all set to make your cinematic dreams come true! With no fault straight lines, impeccable symmetry and color blocking that leaves you hypnotized, we can only be talking about one genius creator — Wes Anderson. While his movies turning into reality might not be the best situation given their plots and twists, his sets undoubtedly are lands of dreams, and now Belmond has translated a glimpse of this into reality aboard the legendary British Pullman, A Belmond Train, England.
Combining Wes Anderson’s love for trains and whimsical settings, the Cygnus carriage on this historical train has been reimagined by the director. With its origins in the 1950’s and boasting two private coupés, the carriage has not only been the perfect way to display Anderson’s passion for craftsmanship but also to strike a perfect balance between preserving the train’s Art Deco heritage and a unique interpretation of modern design.
Thoughtful detailing and marquetry, all alluding to swans, the signature symbol of Cygnus, cutting edge design and contemporary British menus — served on special crockery and glassware exclusive to the private coupés — all make boarding the British Pullman an experience hard to pass. With Wes Anderson’s attention to detail and storytelling, why would you even want to?
A host of day journeys are on offer all throughout the year, starting at London Victoria Station. To book or for more information, visit belmond.com.
