Ace Hotel Brooklyn
- Where:
- Why:Work!
- When:October 2021
- Who:Me
"West coast cabin chill comes to Brooklyn "
Highs & Lows
-
Stellar local programming. The constantly rotating gallery space in the lobby, regular DJ and nightlight programming, plus collabs, events, lectures and workshops with everyone from Textile Arts Center and Pioneer Works, to Cherrybombe magazine and Eater. And for foodie events, they even have a demo kitchen
-
Roman and Williams' warm, cozy and chic detailing never fails to make common areas eclectic and hot-spotty, no matter the location, and the magic here extends upstairs to the creativity of each room and suite
-
Staff. Everyone was the right mix of friendly, aloof, funny and really helpful- exactly what I love in a hotel stay
-
I found myself wishing the coffee bar and bakery stayed open past 2 PM for all day work meetings and that necessary caffeine help
-
This isolated block of Brooklyn has been less inviting than the rest of the neighbourhood, but now you have Ace improving the situation
Important Bits
-
Type
Lifestyle
-
Vibe
Hip and local. Coworking by day, cocktail lounge by night
-
Location
A no-name, industrial stretch of Downtown Brooklyn leads quickly to adjacent Boerum Hill, Fort Greene, Barclay's Center and the central transport hub of Atlantic Terminal
-
Rooms
287
-
Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
The always efficient Ace standard
-
Future Forward
Uses NYC recycling programs. Refill water stations in public spaces and guest floors. JUST WATER in all outlets and minibars. Less plastic building-wide: wooden room keys, cork signage, green guest amenities, no plastic packaging for toiletries, compostable straws upon request, all non-plastic to go containers
-
Music
The easy, vibey alterna you'd expect from a Brooklyn coffeeshop and lounge. Some rooms come with vinyl curations from Rough Trade. Regular DJs or events at night are a thing
-
Year Opened
2021
-
Designed By
Stonehill Taylor (of Moxy, Nomad and TWA Hotel fame) and Roman and Williams
-
Health & Wellness
The very serviceable gym is a collab with analog, 70's-trophy-room gear and equipment brand, Yeah I Work Out
-
Food
The restaurant, As You Are, is super solid. Chef Ryan Jordan and Pastry Chef Danny Alvarez partner on a hearty, robust menu that I couldn't put my finger on but nonetheless loved. Mashups of Southern, Middle Eastern, upstate New York and BK influences kept me guessing and happy
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
Ace Hotels are all about the programming. Sign up for their ongoing calendar of appearances and events
-
Minibar & Retail
Full bottles of La Gritonas tequila, Fort Hamilton whiskey and Our Vodka or snuggle with the coffee and East coast local treats, kombucha and Cloud Water. Snagging the custom robes, Pendelton blankets or vintage vinyl from your room is easy enough, but the hotel shop is full of satisfying Ace merch you'll actually use, plus practicalities from Rudy's Barbershop products to Moleskine notebooks
-
Accessibility
Many of the rooms are ADA accessible, including Medium, Double, and Suite options. ADA pathways and common area seating
-
Pet Friendly
Dogs under 25 lbs welcome for $25 per dog per stay. Contact them about "anything larger or stranger"

An unpopulated block of Downtown BK is actually in the middle of everything. Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill and Carroll Gardens are all accessible neighbors. The Fulton Street Mall is around the block, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Barclay's Center, Atlantic Terminal- it's all right there.
