The beautifully restored landmark building that the American Trade now calls home overlooks Plaza Herrera.
If this isn't the prettiest reception area, I don't know what is.
One of the many plants perfectly placed around the hotel.
Just as with every other aspect, the American Trade Hotel got the design of the restaurant perfect.
I'm a sucker for a good floor design.
The library is a great spot to catch up on some work or to simply browse the awesome book selection. The black and white photo books of Panama City were my favorite.
You'll find this tranquil open air courtyard on the second floor.
I stayed in the Esquina - a room easily twice the size of my NYC apartment.
Getting up to see the sunrise from my balcony was one of the highlights.
Pit stop in the courtyard on my way to explore for the day.
Be sure to come up to the pool after dark. It is totally transformed by beautiful lights and I spent multiple nights whiling the time away up here.

The design of the entire hotel made me feel relaxed as soon I stepped through the doors, and even though the hotel was at capacity during my entire stay, the common spaces hardly ever felt crowded or loud.

Being able to wake up and watch the sunrise from my own private balcony and see Casco Viejo start to come to life in Plaza Herrera.

The staff was very courteous and professional and exceeded my expectations in dealing with an unexpected issue that arose.

Aesop bath products were by far my favorite amenity.

If your room faces Plaza Herrera, it won’t be the quietest. Plaza life starts early and goes late, so be prepared for some street noise as well as the sound of plentiful church bells.

The Lobby Bar serves up drinks all day long. Be sure to have the Sazerac, you’ll really feel as though you are in Panama back in the 1920s. Danilo’s Jazz Club is open late and hosts a mix of local and international artists.
