"Mastering the home-away-from-home experience "

AT A GLANCE: Right in the heart of Colonia Roma, a haven for digital nomads, Igancia Guest House caters equally to the on-the-go creative and relaxed city explorer. With just nine rooms at the property, the vibe is homey and quiet during the day, turning into chatty socializing during the cocktail hour every evening. From lovingly prepared breakfast using the freshest ingredients to interior details, everything has an impeccable touch of Mexico City’s authenticity. We also especially love their zero plastic policy and steps taken to be future-forward.

Highs & Lows

  • A real home-away-from-home, Ignacia Guest House is a discreet and precious oasis in this hectic city

  • The attention to detail is impeccable: from the colour palette to the gorgeous landscaping

  • The sexy marble bathrooms

  • The lovingly prepared breakfast

  • Water temperature in the shower could be warmer, but in the spirit of sustainability we will let this one pass

  • I really appreciated the coffee machine in my room, although the generic Nespresso coffee cups are a missed opportunity to feature the work of local ceramists

Important Bits

  • Type

    B&B

  • Vibe

Homey and quiet with a touch of sexy, understated chicness. The calm tone of voice of the staff lowers your blood pressure

  • Location

Ignacia Guest House is right in the heart of Colonia Roma, but in a less busy area that feels more authentic

  • Rooms

Nine in total: One junior suite, three standard suites, and one master suite. Four new additions were incorporated in November 2022: two balcony suites and two terrace suites. The newest rooms are all decorated in terracotta colors, whilst the original rooms are color-themed in pink, blue, green, yellow, and black

  • Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience

Warm and effective email communication. I congratulated myself for pre-booking the US$50 driver service provided by the hotel after skipping the long taxi queue at the airport on a Sunday evening. Upon arrival, good-looking, impeccably dressed, and spoken front desk staff offered me a mezcal to set the tone right

  • Future Forward

Zero plastic policy. Loredana amenities and Alameda water both come in beautiful glass bottles. Solar panels provide up to 70% of the property’s power. The lovely ladies who prepare breakfast each morning get their fresh produce at the local markets

  • Music

Bose speakers in my room. Living room and front desk with non-intrusive music featuring an eclectic mix that ranged from Björk to some indie bands I had never heard before

  • Year Opened

    2018

  • Designed By

The original structure dates back to 1913. Andrés Gutiérrez, of Mexico City based–A-G Studio, was in charge of the interiors and Fermín Espinosa, of Mexico City based–Factor Eficiencia, of the architecture

  • Health & Wellness

No on-property spa or gym, but there is an option to book an in-room massage; two of the newer suites share a jacuzzi

  • Food

Traditional Mexican breakfast is served daily for hotel guests, lovingly prepared in their open kitchen

  • Bar, Events & Nightlife

Cocktail hour from 5-7 pm by mixologist Federico; after that, an honor bar operates at the lobby until 11 pm

  • Minibar & Retail

Only the black room features a mini bar, but there is an honor bar in the lobby. Mexican contemporary design pieces available for purchase at the property and at their store Originario (Colima 249; @originario.orginiario)

Colonia Roma is a haven for digital nomads. This has, inevitably, eaten away some of its authenticity. However, Ignacia Guest House is located in a particularly interesting part of the neighborhood, a few late-boomer blocks that luckily caught up in a more dignified way with the gentrification process of Roma and Condesa.
