AT A GLANCE: In the sandy folds of the Agafay desert, just outside of Marrakesh, is La Pause, a magical desert camp pioneering modern nomadism. Built to replicate Berber traditions, the hotel’s essence lies in its simplicity — no electricity, cellular, or WiFi. The place keeps cools naturally and comes alive at night under candles and starlight. With tents and lodges as accommodation options, exquisite Moroccan food, two pools, a hammam, and complete privacy, La Pause is an oasis of relaxation. Swipe the images below to discover.
Highs & Lows
-
Sleeping in a Berber lodge with no electricity feels like a calming experience everyone should have
-
The food is outstanding and memorable
-
Clear nights, with no light pollution, which means perfect night sky for stargazing
-
The best place to disengage from mundane tasks and obligations
-
A pool in the middle of the desert is a luxury I will say yes to
-
Seeing the camels working like that made me sad. I would prefer to engage in more compassionate ways to sightsee

Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
La Pause sent their driver to pick us up at our riad in Marrakech. Grateful for this, as navigating the desert with no reception is tricky. Upon arrival, they had lunch and tea ready for us. If there were any stress before getting there, it would definitely vanish!

The Agafay Desert, just 25 mins outside Marrakech, is the most accessible desert for those who don't have several days to explore. That doesn't mean it's not as wonderful. On the contrary, it is picturesque, with rolling dunes reaching as far as the eye can see.
