Highs & Lows
-
True hospitality - the service was spectacular, they had Jolene under some spell, we were treated like aristocrats with little Southern ceremonies and touches that made us feel localized. I loved the honor bar, not many people do it right but these folk have it down. Especially the leather foiled coasters with black magic motif, I set back and listened to Miamie Smith got my blues and late night dark side on.
-
The property has excellent and approachable service. Shane the bellman made many authentic gestures to provide us with local flare and helped unload carefully my hats and many bags filled with fun costumes for our long ahead road trip. Thomas, the front desk clerk, was chill but prompt when I mentioned a list of tasks I needed to get done for work and travel. He helped organize my appointments to get my beard trimmed in the Garden District.

The wine and cheese hour in most hotels scares me, processed cheese and sugary wines but not here darlings... it’s the perfect shade of rose all day and a selection of assorted gourmet cheese and capers, pickled veggies and of course handmade breads and crackers.

+ The elegance and refinement but relaxed luxury really is refreshing, I especially loved the breakfast of fresh smoked salmon, capers, eggs it gave new meaning to conventional continental breakfast. It was superbly cultured and curated. Tasty! I refrained from taking the vintage serving pieces. I do plan on being invited back.

Very well-appointed decor. Chic AF. If I stole everything, I am cursed forever by Madame Maison de la Luz…but it might be just worth it.
Important Bits
-
Type
A chic AF guest house in the warehouse district of New Orleans- imagine that you are staying a former Governor’s mistress house who practiced and celebrated Voodoo and black magic.
-
Vibe
I felt like I was staying at the home of New Orleans aristocratic and a culturally tuned socialite. Shamshiri from Studio Shamshiri a brother and sister team, partnered with Atelier Ace and really started looking at the building, the history, neighborhood cultural references, historically nods and of course mentionable characters. Nearly everything has a story or reference to details, from the snake door handle in my shower, the estate silver, the framed constellation silk Hermès scarfs to the upper crust nod of New Orleans Voodoo magic. A mix of myth and secretive tradition. Decades of refined Voodoo Queen realness feel appropriately placed and carefully advised over before deciding this is right. The fabrics are luxurious the finishes are stunning. Pure magic. “A place for reverie and proper Southern swoon”

Rooms
Sixty seven resplendent suites filled with untold stores and generous spirits. Redone, simple and clean with a historical narrative to unfold.
-
Music
Great lil’ record player in the lobby bar with an assortment of cool vinyl. They play great music I felt transported in time. I summonsed my inner Amy Winehouse and Mamie Smith.

NO. However this is an Atelier Ace property right next door is Ace New Orleans with a fantastic rooftop pool serving you proper drannnks, food and Southern Heat... Added bonus you get access to everything the hotel offers, including the gym. So sweat your ass off and take a dip upstairs. Eat, drink Mary!
-
Restaurant
These guys own Carondelet Street, its jammed back with N’awlins inspired hipster spots that include; Bar Marilou, Josephine Estelle, Seaworthy, Alto and Three Keys. There are so many more spots in N’awlins but these are must see places...or you are cursed. Not to mention they have a breakfast room in the guest house serving an Emily Post approved buffet complete with vintage estate silver and refined procured table wares. Have a perfect iced coffee with chilled almond milk or Southern staple of iced tea with “tons of ice” like my grandmother loved. I had no resistance so I ate at all the spots mentioned but Seaworthy showcased me sustainable harvested oysters from the American waters and endless rose set in a Creole cottage built in 1832, opened by Grand Banks + Ace. “Laissez le bon temps rose”
-
Bar
Mischief, magic and well of course Marilou who lives in a former library of City Hall Amex and is adorned with a nod to some who is expressive and well traveled, full of culture, collector of curiosities and objets. The brain trust of Quixotic Projects out of Paris who have that perfect Je ne Sais Quoi. Together with Atelier Ace this bar can be accessed secretly through a “tarot lounge” an adjacent nook that feels like the coveted closet of Marie Laveau.
-
Minibar
Elegant, refined, well curated. “The Candy is Dandy and the liquor is quicker.” A fully stocked well designed and self contained cabinet filled with minibar items and a delicious assortment of snacks.
-
Children
Are they well behaved? I would say leave them and find the romance you might need to conjure up in this perfect backdrop for a new love spell.
-
Price
Open that Chanel bag and experience life sweetie.
