Highs & Lows
-
The design — a well balanced mix of refined furnishings (favorite pieces by Antonio Citterio & Patricia Urquiola!) and rich textiles sourced from artisans around the world.
-
The location — best area to stay for an authentic Berlin experience. The hotel is surrounded by lots of shops, restaurants, and bars.
-
The service — very kind and attentive. Our flight was at 8 a.m. in the morning and the hotel staff prepared a take away breakfast for the road for us.
-
The hotel's integration with the community through supporting local farms, artists, and brands.
-
Felt very safe throughout our stay at the hotel despite the pandemic. Sufficient Covid-19 measures like disinfectant and signage in all areas of the hotel remind guests to social distance, wear masks, etc. Staff operate in accordance with local law.
-
The "take-out" room service menu was small and limited.

Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
Warm and welcoming. The reception is connected to a “Living Room” style lounge that is filled with the hotel’s signature icon — the elephant — which was the owner’s father’s favorite animal. The receptionist greeted and checked us in promptly, offering a drink from the bar. The whole process was seamless and we were made to feel right at home without being too overbearing

Food
Breakfast starts at 6.30 a.m. and goes all the way until 3.30 p.m. so you won’t miss a thing even if you’re having a proper Berlin-night out. The breakfast menu is a mixture of classic egg dishes and Orania’s take on shakshuka, cold cuts, and small buffet. The well-crafted dinner menu by chef Philipp Vögel offers a variety of dishes with German, Italian and Asian influences. However, if you get the chance, order the once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience called “Xberg Duck” — a four-course menu for two serving only dishes with duck. So simple but genius!
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
Located in the “Living Room” area between reception and restaurant, the bar offers an eclectic selection of artisan brands as well experimental cocktails with excotic ingredients. We liked the “Kennedy” (Freedom Rebels gin, mampe halb und halb, orange, lemon, mint). Elevated music featuring Berlin’s finest musicians most nights and centrally located within a stone's throw of all of Berlin’s top venues whether you’re looking for a club or juicy glou glou

Right by Oranienplatz and Kottbusser Tor, the most vibrant and walkable part of Kreuzberg with access to lots of bars, restaurants and shops. Conveniently located close to the train station for both the U8 and U1 which can take you to all neighborhoods "Kiez" in Berlin. Being so central in Kreuzberg though, we wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t venture out very far.
