Highs & Lows

Cool design – feels zen – you never feel like other people are crowding the place. It’s not like a business hotel; it’s quiet and boutique and trendy.
-
It’s part of a hotel and restaurant group so there’s a lot of places to dine.
-
It’s very conveniently located, right in the center, always taxis around, close to harbour, opera and botanical gardens.
-
The walls are paper thin… I could hear my neighbors and the door slamming all the time.
-
I didn’t have any towel hooks in my bathroom so I couldn’t let my towels hang to dry. It was odd!
-
My room was very dark and looked out on an alley. I had no view, never even saw the sky. Make sure to ask what view you have.

Vibe
The hotel is designed to be quite zen but you can feel the “trendy” vibe. It never feels like anyone else is staying there. The lobby is usually empty and quiet.
-
Location
It’s located in the city, a few blocks from the harbour and the Botanical Gardens. The hotel takes up a small block squeezed in the middle of tall buildings so it’s quite dark. My room looked out on the alley and had no view.

Music
I don’t remember…I think some kind of Asian-inspired pling plong spa music…?

Health & Wellness
No pool, no spa but there is a fully equipped fitness center.

Restaurant
The Establishment is part of a hotel and restaurant group that’s considered quite hip and trendy. The hotel itself is kind of a happening place. There’s a huge bar downstairs that gets packed after work and on weekends. There’s also a sort of speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar in the basement and a lounge upstairs. I only went to the speakeasy. All bars have a different vibe and customer. There’s a great Chinese restaurant down the block, in the alley, that belongs to the same hotel group. It’s bustling and delicious. We bumped into Georgia Jagger there. They also have a French restaurant around the corner that is 100% inspired by Balthazar and all the French bistros in New York.

Children
Didn’t see any kids! I don’t know if this hotel would be fun for them. Don’t bring them.
