"Serene Japanese sanctuary... In Marylebone"

AT A GLANCE: The Prince Akatoki is a zen sanctuary in the posh Marylebone. The 82-room hotel is designed to be a respite from the city’s chaos and upholds sensual minimalism and Japanese ethos at each step. The highlight, however, is TOKII, the on-site restaurant whose sushi is rave-worthy. The Prince Akatoki ensures complete relaxation in your own traditional Yukata robes, no less, and is perfect for a solo or romantic city getaway. Swipe the images below to discover.

The Prince Akatoki Japanese minimalism carries on throughout the rooms, with clean lines and bright, open windows and not even a remote control or a single item of clutter in sight. THE. DREAM.

The Prince Akatoki While I was surprised with a Jr. Suite, the rooms are snug but definitely cozy and surprisingly very quiet given their stellar location

The Prince Akatoki The bathrooms are large and more western, except for the famed Japanese toilets, which are quite a treat if you haven't experienced one before

The Prince Akatoki Sadly no freebies here (which is very 2000s if you ask me), BUT I did like the Sapporo and Japanese tea options

The Prince Akatoki Definitely brought these extra fluffy slippers back home with me. Also, can we talk about mood lighting? The Japanese JUST. GET IT.

The Prince Akatoki As a self-proclaimed sushi snob, the sushi and sashimi at TOKII were divine. I didn't even look at the menu and let the experts wow me — they did not disappoint. I would definitely come back here just for the sushi

Highs & Lows

  • Location! At The Prince Akatoki, I was walking distance from everywhere I needed (and wanted!) to be, and being blessed with spectacular weather during my stay, crossing Hyde Park was a treat

  • With SO many dining options in London, you usually would not catch me dead in a hotel restaurant. Still, TOKII was a 10/10 for traditional sushi, and I will definitely be coming back!

  • I loved the sleep scent at turndown, along with the soothing music and lighting

  • No freebies or in-room snacks aside from the water and Nespresso

  • Single-use plastics

Important Bits

  • Type

    Luxury Hotel

  • Vibe

    Serene five-star Japanese minimalism

  • Location

Perfectly located in the heart of Marylebone

  • Rooms

    82

  • Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience

The Prince Akatoki is an easy 15-minute cab from Victoria Station. There was a mishap with my booking on arrival, but the team on the ground was quick to sort

  • Future Forward

For excelling in clean, minimalism everywhere else, I was a bit disappointed in their future-forward efforts. Single-use plastic toiletries are so passé, and while the majority of bottles were glass, there was still plastic at turn down :(

  • Music

Faint zen tunes in the background

  • Year Opened

    2019

  • Designed By

London-based B3 Designers created the hotel with Japanese design principles in mind

  • Health & Wellness

There is a small gym in the basement — can’t say I made use of it, but if you need it, it exists

  • Food

TOKII, the restaurant in the lobby, is a vibe in and of itself. If you are looking for “fun” rolls and mayo on everything, walk right out. Here, the quality of the ingredients speaks for itself, and soy sauce is used at a minimum. Don’t even look at the menu and opt for the omakase or chef’s selection which was very fittingly so *chef’s kiss*

  • Bar, Events & Nightlife

The Malt Bar’s dark wood and a myriad of Japanese whiskeys is the perfect spot for a nightcap after indulging at TOKII

  • Minibar & Retail

Appreciated the Japanese touches in the minibar as well as the Sapporo and the Yuzu tea

  • Accessibility

Several adapted rooms and a lift

  • Pet Friendly

Yes! Dogs receive the same Japanese hospitality as two-legged guests

  • Children

Extra beds and cribs are available, but the zen-vibe is more adults-only

  • Price

Fair pricing for London, especially for those that value privacy and location above all
