"Serene Japanese sanctuary... In Marylebone"
AT A GLANCE: The Prince Akatoki is a zen sanctuary in the posh Marylebone. The 82-room hotel is designed to be a respite from the city’s chaos and upholds sensual minimalism and Japanese ethos at each step. The highlight, however, is TOKII, the on-site restaurant whose sushi is rave-worthy. The Prince Akatoki ensures complete relaxation in your own traditional Yukata robes, no less, and is perfect for a solo or romantic city getaway. Swipe the images below to discover.
Highs & Lows
-
Location! At The Prince Akatoki, I was walking distance from everywhere I needed (and wanted!) to be, and being blessed with spectacular weather during my stay, crossing Hyde Park was a treat
-
With SO many dining options in London, you usually would not catch me dead in a hotel restaurant. Still, TOKII was a 10/10 for traditional sushi, and I will definitely be coming back!
-
I loved the sleep scent at turndown, along with the soothing music and lighting
-
No freebies or in-room snacks aside from the water and Nespresso
-
Single-use plastics

Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
The Prince Akatoki is an easy 15-minute cab from Victoria Station. There was a mishap with my booking on arrival, but the team on the ground was quick to sort
-
Future Forward
For excelling in clean, minimalism everywhere else, I was a bit disappointed in their future-forward efforts. Single-use plastic toiletries are so passé, and while the majority of bottles were glass, there was still plastic at turn down :(
-
Music
Faint zen tunes in the background
-

-
Health & Wellness
There is a small gym in the basement — can’t say I made use of it, but if you need it, it exists
-
Food
TOKII, the restaurant in the lobby, is a vibe in and of itself. If you are looking for “fun” rolls and mayo on everything, walk right out. Here, the quality of the ingredients speaks for itself, and soy sauce is used at a minimum. Don’t even look at the menu and opt for the omakase or chef’s selection which was very fittingly so *chef’s kiss*
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
The Malt Bar’s dark wood and a myriad of Japanese whiskeys is the perfect spot for a nightcap after indulging at TOKII
-

Appreciated the Japanese touches in the minibar as well as the Sapporo and the Yuzu tea
-

Several adapted rooms and a lift

The Prince Akatoki is far enough from the hustle and bustle that is Oxford Street but still within walking distance to everywhere you want to be — 15 minutes to Hyde Park, 10 minutes to Selfridges, and an actual 5-minute walk to Marylebone high street.
