Highs & Lows
-
Seriously, everything is so great and unique. This is what hotel dreams are made of.
-
Location! Love all of the greenery. Gives calm and cool vibes at the same time.
-
Divinely designed!
-
Amazing coffee and cocktails! I would live at (TRUNK) LOUNGE if I lived in Tokyo.
-
My room was fantastic. From the bed (and the loft bed) to the massive couch and really great minibar.
-
I loved the restaurants and (TRUNKE) STORE, their concept shop. Felt very Lower East Side cozy-grocery-shop-meets-boutique.
Important Bits
-
Type
The hippest boutique hotel in Tokyo. Eco-friendly and artsy!
-
Vibe
The (TRUNK) LOUNGE gives me major New York’s Ace Hotel lobby with a side of Bowery Hotel vibes, albeit sans pretention and designed better and way more thoughtfully. In other words, it is SUPER eco-chic: Trees, plants and freshly cut flowers are scattered throughout the lobby.
-
Location
Shibuya, Tokyo, but on a quiet street away from the Shibuya madness. Also, just seconds away from fashion-hub that is Harajuku.
-
Rooms
15 beauties. All unique. All resembling immaculately-designed urban apartments. I stayed in the gigantic social-gathering-friendly “LIVING SUITE” -- huuuuge couch, a comfy as hell bed AND a lofted bed above it. Also, a projector and a record player. (My favorites were a Sade and Madonna record.)
-
Music
Chill ambient tunes play during the day in the TRUNK (LOUNGE), selected by music experts who lead the local Shibuya scene. After dark, local DJs do their thing. A lot of cool events are hosted here as well.
-
Year Opened
May 2017.
-
Designed By
Mount Fuji Architects Studio are responsible for the hotel’s architecture design and the hotel interior is designed by Jamo Associates.
-
Health & Wellness
No, but hotel guests can borrow bikes (or skateboards!). Fun fact: The bicycles are made from recycled parts from abandoned bikes found around the city. (Actually, so much is made from recycled materials at this gem of a hotel.)

Restaurant
Yes! TRUNK (KITCHEN) is great. I suggest eating on the lovely terrace. Yuji Tani of lauded restaurant “HOUSE Nishiazabu” is responsible for the yum menu, which features traditional Japanese dishes as well as American and French (mostly) healthy bites. There’s also the extremely cozy and very popular TRUNK (KUSHI), where Shibuya’s soul food, like kushiyaki (skewered food) and lots of sake are served. You’ll feel like a local… if you manage to get a seat. For those just yearning for a bite to go, stop by TRUNK (STORE), where you can grab strong coffee and locally-made tasty treats: Onigiri rice balls, organic bento boxes, crazily good pastries, ice cream, popsicles, etc. Also, Tokyo-based souvenirs and gifts are for sale, including TRUNK (HOTEL)’s very own logo t-shirts, tooth brushes, organic skin care, hangers, blankets, their really great body wash and shampoo and sooo much more. I meant to grab a “Sensu” (Japanese fan) by Fano, but I was broke.
-
Bar
In the TRUNK (LOUNGE) is the supremely hip and popular TRUNK (BAR). Cocktails are killer, and surprisingly not that expensive for a fancy hotel.
-
Minibar
God, it’s good! Tons of quality options made locally, like tea from Ginza tea specialty store, Uogashi Meicha.
-
Children
Yep.
-
Price
Reasonable-ish for the area.
- Website
Do some exploring.
