Highs & Lows

  • Utopia is completely sustainable. They go to great lengths to be as self-sufficient as possible with solar panels on the roofs for the pool and water, compostable toilets, refillable water bottles, their own garden to grow food. It is a minimal waste operation - extra points for this.

  • Family run hotel with really warm vibes. You really spend time in the home of this Italian family, eat with them every night and they will take you on adventures to the market, out surfing, or exploring the mangroves.

  • These rooms are open air (no external walls). An incredible way to live in this warm climate in Indonesia, we loved it (you are literally sleeping outside) but it may not be for everyone.

  • One of the best toilet/shower views in all of the land! These things are open air and look over out over the property towards the ocean.

  • No products in the bathroom (shampoo etc.), though this may be for eco reasons.

  • This place is very relaxed and sometimes the service can be too.

The Italian family who owns Utopia – Mario, Cristiana, their son Aimone and his partner Kim. There was no architectural design as such. The property was built by the family through a very organic process.

  • Health & Wellness

Pool and a yoga shala with daily classes.

  • Restaurant

Utopia is a bit like a family farm property, with a central kitchen dining area where everyone eats together. All meals are included and served here, though it is open to non-guests too. Dishes are balanced and healthy, with a mix of Italian influences - from the owners (sometimes you’ll eat pizza or pasta) - and local Indonesia dishes. Their garden supplies much of the vegetables for meals and other produce is sourced from the local community. Everything is made in house, from the bread to the pasta and the curry pastes and raw chocolates. On Full Moon and New Moon the restaurant cooks a special dinner of suckling pig, which is open to public.

  • Bar

No, but you can buy beers and wine at the kitchen.

  • Minibar

    N/A

  • Children

Yes, a great place for kids. There is one larger family suite to, which can house a family of five

  • Price

Well-priced for such a unique experience, and all inclusive of meals and snorkel equipment and boats out to the surf.
