The Best Hotels In Los Angeles
From reinvented classics to the noteworthy newbies in town, here’s where the buzz is at in The City Of Angels
In the last handful of years, Los Angeles has pulled ahead of the pack to become a star in the hospitality world. From the West Side to Silver Lake, elevated design partnerships, restaurants that make hotel dining the destination de rigueur (for everyone, guest or not), and amenity perks that give a members-only vibe to even one-time guests, every new addition to La La Land make the local landscape sparkle brighter.
LA is a gigantic city, and some neighborhoods have quite distinctive personalities, so to make it easier to choose where to stay when in town next (or to get inspired for a staycation), we grouped the hotels by areas, with a note on how each of them looks and feels. We also pinned them — along with local insiders’ tips on the best spots — on a super user-friendly map you can save directly to your devices and have the whole city at your fingertips.
Central LA, Hollywood & WeHo
Tinseltown is geographically and culturally the city’s heart, with hotspots and must-sees on nearly every block. Plus, it’s honestly pretty easy to get almost anywhere from the middle of town to Bel Air and Beverly Hills to the Hollywood Hills and beyond.
THE HOLLYWOOD ROOSEVELT
The Roosevelt is a respite of pure, old town cool on the most touristy stretch in all of Los Angeles. The stone tile flooring, soaring ceilings, and majestic columns make it one of the grandest spots in the city, dating back to the 1920s and the Golden Era of Hollywood and entertaining the likes of Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe, who even made it her home for a few years. Speaking of entertainment, there’s every kind on offer — from the David Hockney-painted swimming pool and Tropicana outdoor bar to Nancy Silverton’s Italian steakhouse, Barish, or the Prohibition-era bowling alley (yes, you can really play) in the Spare Room bar upstairs.

The John Pawson-designed rooms and suites provide views of the Hollywood Hills from floor-to-ceiling windows. SUNSET TOWER
A dramatic setting on the Sunset Strip, Art Deco trimmings, the who’s who of Hollywood in the list of former guests, like Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra, cameos in numerous Hollywood films, and even a literary nod in a Raymond Chandler, the hotel is a true Hollywood diva, in every sense. Established in 1929, its proximity to all the happening places of the 30s and 40s made Sunset Tower a landmark for the rich and famous. Undergoing remodels and renovations over the years, it continues to be a timeless masterpiece — both of hospitality and architecture — now with dusty pink and cream tones in the rooms, a dark, sultry rooftop bar, an updated pool area with the ever-changing, never-tiring views of the city.

PETIT ERMITAGE
Located in West Hollywood, the location is, in fact, the least impressive of all things that make Petit Ermitage great. Large, cozy rooms with the right amount of design quirks win your heart inside, while the rooftop pool with an outdoor fireplace is the place to be for socializing and sublime sunsets. Magical and whimsy, and admittedly not for everyone, you never know what’s around the corner at Petit Ermitage, so bring a side of curiosity and chaos along with your bags for check-in.

CARA HOTEL
